"My parents are not from Mobile and neither of them knew much about the Azalea Trail Organization, so my desire to become a Trail Maid was entirely my own, born in me at a very young age, and initially, all about the pretty dress. As I grew up in Mobile and learned more about the actual role Azalea Trail Maids play in our city, I knew that I wanted to pursue the goal of becoming one. From our very first meeting at the end of my sophomore year, I was impressed by Ms. Allison's knowledge of all things “Trail” as well as her incredibly warm personality. Even in the midst of the uncertainty of the pandemic, she helped me with everything from narrowing the focus of my application to choosing a great headshot. Her classes covered everything I needed to know about Mobile, and the mock interview practice we did helped me walk into my actual interview with confidence. I am so honored to be on this journey as an Azalea Trail Maid, and I couldn’t have done it without Ms. Allison!"
-Klare Bergman, 2021-2022 Azalea Trail Maid
"I had dreamed of becoming an Azalea Trail Maid ever since I was a little girl in preschool. As high school approached, I began to really see the Trail Maids in action. That’s when I knew I wanted to be an ambassador for the city of Mobile. I had a general idea of what I needed to know for the interview but no where to start. Slowly but surely, the summer before 11th grade was here, and that’s when I first got in contact with Ms. Allison Miller. Ms. Allison offers a variety of classes to help prepare you for Azalea Trail interviews. I took all of her classes: Mobile History 101 and 201, Current Events 101 and 201, poise, appearance, personality, and application. The packets she gave us for each lesson were set up in chronological order, and this made the information so much easier to learn and understand. Anytime I had a question about the information I never hesitated to text her because I knew she would always respond. Once I began to learn the information, we started having mock interviews. These interviews helped me become more confident in myself. Before school and county interviews, Ms. Allison prayed with me, and this meant the world to me. She spends so much time helping you learn how to be your best self. My time with her really prepared me for not only my Trail interview, but interviews in the years to come. I’m so thankful I was able to learn to “ be memorable in a good way” from Ms. Allison. I would have not achieved my goal of wearing ruffles if it wasn’t for Ms. Allison Miller, and I highly recommend her classes to any girl wanting to become an Azalea Trail Maid."
-Cathryn Evans, 2020-2021 Azalea Trail Maid
“'Be memorable in a good way' has become my motto since working with Ms. Allison. I had a general idea of what I needed to know, but no idea where to start. My mom and I met with Ms. Allison and she helped me evaluate myself, and together we determined the best course of action. Ms. Allison is absolutely amazing. She taught the lessons in a fun and easy to understand way that made it much easier to retain. She also helped me present my best self in my application. After the initial lessons, we started the mock interviews. We went over how to walk, sit, and what to wear. Ms. Allison has a way of bringing out the best in you. She didn’t try to change me, but instead helped me to dig in and bring out the things that make me special. Ms. Allison was always positive and uplifting rather than critical, encouraging me to be memorable in a good way. This helped me continue to gain confidence. It also meant a lot to me that she prayed with me and my Mom before both my school and county interviews. Before working with her, I was hesitant to engage adults in conversation. Now I feel confident to speak about a wide range of subjects. While my primary reason for working with her was to achieve my goal of becoming an Azalea Trail Maid, the skills she taught me will benefit me for the rest of my life. I am grateful to Ms. Allison for helping me achieve my goal and I will forever be proud to be 'Maid by Miller.'"
-Cailin Allen, 2019-2020 Azalea Trail Maid
"I was encouraged to take classes with Allison through a friend at school who interviewed for Trail the year before me. I was completely clueless on what I should be studying and preparing for, but Allison took all my worries away. Coming from a school that went three years without any Maids, she knew how big of a goal this was for me and my community. She really knows how to make your personality shine through all your answers. She gave me packets with tons of information on Mobile history, current events, and personality questions, and she sent emails with attached articles and/or news stories on new topics that the judges may ask about in the interviews. I am so honored to be the first queen from Citronelle High School and the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians, and I definitely owe my pink ruffles to Allison Miller!"
– Joni Reed, 2018-2019 Azalea Trail Queen
“'May the works I’ve done speak for me' are words of a song I have heard many times in worship; however, they are the words that come to mind when I think of my time with Miss Allison Miller of Maid by Miller. My mother met her as she trained other girls and vowed to solicit her help when I became a junior. We began working together, and Miss Miller shared multiple aspects of our fair city in a way that made the information easier to digest and retain. After learning what she felt was the right amount of information, she taught me how to interview. We practiced everything: how to sit, how to walk, and how to respond. She would always remind me after study sessions to 'be memorable in a good way.' The most powerful aspect of my whole experience with Miss Miller is that at the end of our last session together, she led my grandmother, my mother, and me in prayer. If faith without works is dead, then works without faith are nothing either. It was important to me to work with someone who helped me realize my goal of becoming an Azalea Trial Maid. That realization was her work as much as it was mine. The work she does speaks for her, and I assure you that your time with Miss Miller of Maid by Miller will be memorable in a good way!"
-Rubyen Patrick Nelson, 2018-2019 Azalea Trail Maid
“Allison is phenomenal. From the very first time I met with her, I could see her willingness to go the extra mile to ensure that I was well beyond prepared for my Azalea Trail interviews. More than that, the lessons that she taught me go way beyond Trail. Allison has taught me skills that are crucial to any future interviews or career opportunities that I may have. She knows that not all girls are the same and strives for each girl to be nothing but themselves in every interview. Allison takes the time to get to know the personality of every person she works with, which to me is one the of the most important characteristics when looking for someone to help you prepare. It was an honor to learn from her.”
– Bri Montgomery, 2017-2018 Azalea Trail Maid
“I had the opportunity to work with Ms. Miller on Trail preparation. In the sessions, we went over the history of Moible, mock interviewing, and my appearance. Ms. Miller took the time to break down all the information that I needed to become successful at my school and county interview. Ms. Miller was also very flexible with dates and times when I needed to meet with her. She would also call me if she had any space open for extra help. I would recommend any girl who is willing to put in the hard work and find time to work with Ms. Miller.”
– Kennedy Smith, 2017-2018 Azalea Trail Maid
“Taking the Mobile history class and Azalea Trail preparation class with Ms. Miller was one of the most beneficial things I could have done to be prepared for Azalea Trail interviews or any interview in general. I learned everything I needed to know about Mobile, tips about my personality, how to answer ANY question given to me, how to dress, tips on having a great application, how to make myself stand out, events that are happening every day around the world, and more. Truly, if I hadn't taken Ms. Miller's class, I most likely would not be wearing my beautiful, yellow antebellum dress today. I owe all credit to her!”
– Isabelle Fields, 2016-2017 Azalea Trail Maid
“During the spring semester of my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to take a class offered at Mary G. Montgomery High school known as Mobile history with Ms. Miller. To this day, when asked how I became a Mobile Azalea Trail Maid, all credit goes towards her. From teaching us everything we need to know about Mobile History, drilling us on current events, quizzing us on attractions within Mobile, and critiquing us during mock interviews, she made it certain that us girls knew everything we needed to know going into Azalea Trail interviews. Not only is she a great mentor and teacher, she's also an amazing person who goes to the ends of the world to help students work towards reaching their goals. I highly recommend her to any of the upcoming Trail hopefuls, and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to know and be a student of Ms. Miller's.”
– McKenzey Davis, 2016-2017 Azalea Trail Maid
"Ms. Miller is an amazing teacher and role model. She taught me everything I needed to know for my Trail interview, and I loved working with her. Going through the interview process can be stressful, but she makes sure you're prepared and on the right track. I would recommend her 100%.”
– Kourtney Davis, 2015-2016 Azalea Trail Maid
“I could not have been an Azalea Trail Maid without the help of Ms. Miller and the Mobile history class that she taught. She really knows her material, and she cares that you know it too. She covers the big picture of Mobile history, but also goes into great detail so you can toss little facts in your interview so you stand out among others. By sharing her knowledge and resources for current events, I was equipped for any “lightening round”. Ms. Miller gets to know you personally, how you work, and what YOUR strengths and weaknesses are so her advice was never canned or impersonal. Going into both school and county level interviews, my confidence was stronger due to Ms. Miller and her constructive feedback.”
– Kaylen Mitchell, 2015-2016 Azalea Trail Maid
"When I began preparing for Azalea Trail interviews, Ms. Miller was a wealth of knowledge on history and current events as well as advice about interview skills. My time with her not only prepared me for my trail interview, but for so many more experiences. I'm now an Old Maid of a few years, and I can say that I credit my confidence in my ability to present myself to Allison teaching me in high school. There has not been a single interview that I've walked into since that I have not felt more than adequate in putting forth my best self. She is a joy to work with, highlighting your strong points and graciously fine tuning your weaknesses."
